Hens Nights

  • A hens night is… the bride's last party with her female friends as a single woman. It is usually informal and, unlike bridal showers, no gifts are necessary.
  • The hostess is… usually the maid/matron of honour, but sometimes also the bridesmaids.
  • Costs… are shared between the guests.
  • Those to be invited… are any female friends you want, even if they're not invited to the wedding. For example, if your wedding is going to be held at a location where some of your friends/relatives/colleagues cannot get to (in another city, for example), it's a good idea to celebrate with them before you leave.
  • It can be held whenever… you want. However, in terms of date, hens nights are usually held about a week or so before the wedding. In terms of the time of the day, they are commonly held at night but daytrips are becoming more and more common these days, however.
  • Examples of what to do… include having dinner at a restaurant, going on a cruise, and going to a night club, etc. Having a hens night at someone's home is also quite common, when games are often played. Click on Hens Night Games for ideas.
