Bucks Nights

  • A bucks night is… the groom's last party with his male friends and relatives as a single man. It is usually very informal.
  • The host is… usually the best man, but sometimes also the groomsmen.
  • Costs… are shared between the guests.
  • Those to be invited… are any male friends and relatives he wants, even if they're not invited to the wedding. For example, if the wedding is going to be held at a location where some of his friends/relatives/colleagues cannot get to (in another city, for example), it is a good idea for him to celebrate with them before he leaves.
  • It can be held whenever… he wants. The most common time bucks nights are held, however, is about one to three weeks before the wedding. Not the night before the wedding, as the tradition used to be… In terms of the time of the day, they are usually held at night, but daytrips are becoming more and more common these days, however.
  • Examples of what to do… include going to a strip-club (whether the bride wants him to do this is the million dollar question…), going to a restaurant, gambling, and going on a cruise, etc. If the bucks night is going to be held during the day it is becoming quite common to do something adventurous, such as white-water rafting, rock-climbing, and skydiving, etc. Other examples of what to do include going to a sporting event, camping, or just having a quiet time at the best man's place.
